This Week in Houston Comedy

Heya kids.  Here’s a rundown of what’s happening in the Houston comedy scene this week.  Get your jokes together and come find a stage.  There’s pretty much somewhere to play 7 nights a week.

1/20/10 – Tonight is the second Open Mic at the Houston Improv.  It’s too late to sign up if you haven’t already, but that shouldn’t stop you from going out and supporting.  Showtime is from 8-10:30 pm.

1/2o/10 – Exit 73 Bar & Grill in Spring hosts a two hour show every week.  To get on board, get a hold of Lydia O’Neil at her MySpace Page.

1/21/2010 – Rob Mungle hosts the open mic at  1820 Bar.  Interested performers should sign up at 9pm and the show starts at 9:30. The 1820 Bar is at the corner of Franklin and Hamilton in Downtown Houston.

1/22-23/10 – This weekend at Comedy Showcase, Mike Jones performs.  Who?  Mike Jones.  Who?  Okay, not that Mike Jones.   This Mike is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and has performed professionally for 19 years.  Showcase is a GREAT room to play, but you have to hang out there occasionally before they’ll look at you for a guest shot.  Shows are every Fri-Sat at 8:00 & 10:30.

1/21-24/10 – Sean Corvelle headlines the Laff Spot this week.  According to his bio, Sean has “moved quickly up the comedy scene with his laid back style and instant likability.”  Swing by and say hi.

1/21-24/10 – Mitch Fatel performs all week at the Houston Improv. Mitch is a really funny guy, and most definitely worth stopping in to see live.  Go by his website for more details.

1/24/10 – Come out to the Houston Comedy Union’s next big show on Sunday.  Headliner (and reeeeally good friend) Tommy Drake will wrap things up.  Come see him along with Donny Johnson, Keith Manning, Ryan Thauburn, and other special guests.  This night is really turning into one that you can’t miss.

1/25/10 – The most infamous open mic in the country happens again on Monday at Sherlocks in River Oaks (1952-A West Gray).  It’s growing exponentially, with last week’s show pulling in a standing room only crowd and going almost until closing time.  Showtime is at 9:30… sign up before 9pm.  If you show up, you go up.  We promise.  And if you just want to watch you can do that too.  Tell your friends!

1/26/10 – There is an Open Mic at the Corner Pub in Conroe for those that want to make the drive.  My best advice is to get together with a group of other comics and carpool it.  As of now, it’s the only Tuesday night stage to be found.  Email laugh@adamkomar.com for more info.

If there are any other shows that we don’t have posted here, please email us at houstoncomedyunion@gmail.com.

All the best.  See you from the stage.
